I glanced our calendar this morning and noted that Chase has an eye-doctor appointment on Friday. Chances are pretty good he needs glasses. For a few seconds I was a bit bummed that he will have to deal with glasses.
Then I remembered that when I was just a year older than he I had to have surgery on my eyeballs so that I wouldn't be cross-eyed anymore.
Glasses are much more preferable.

Man, looking for a job after being out of the work force for nearly a decade is not an easy task. And its so different. I remember when we moved back to Iowa the whole internet thing wasn't anything like it is today. You had to print resumes and mail them in. Applications had to be picked up to fill them out with a pen and either take it back or mail it in. You had to check the print phone book for most addresses.

Now if you mailed that much paper to someone they would probably think you were nuts.

So I've been working on this for a while here -- Got the refurb laptop we bought from my wife's office set up the way I want, boosted our wireless signal a tad, and hooked up a set of computer speakers with a sub-woofer in the garage.

I'd dump my ancient tv/vcr combo, but then I wouldn't be able to watch my old MST3K tapes out here.

My son likes apple juice. A lot. Thats cool. So we end up with many empty 64 ounce bottles every few weeks. Being the borderline hoarder that I am, I save them. Because surely there's a use for everything, right?

Aha! There is! I no longer have a hose long enough to reach my veggie garden (some critter chewed a hole in it), but I do have a water collection barrel nearby. So, after some trial and error I figured out a way to make those empty juice jugs into slow drip watering cans.

I use a roofing nail and make 2 holes in the lid. Then with a 1/2 inch blade knife I cut 2 slits on the neck part of the bottle. This allows for just enough air flow to push the water out at a slow rate. I fill the bottles with rain barrel water, lay the bottles at a 40-50 degree angle at the base of the plant that needs watering, and they get watered and happy and make food for us.
I'm thinking about upping the air slit vents up to 4. Because I'm impatient. Water faster damnit!
